Deputy Consul General's résumé
Cornel Barth was born in Karlsruhe in 1956. Due to his father’s profession as a Naval Officer he grew up and went to school in various coastal cities like Cuxhaven, Flensburg, Westerland and Wilhelmshaven. In 1972/73 he participated in an exchange student program in Los Angeles, USA where he received a US-High School diploma. After finishing German high school in Bonn in 1975, he served as a commissioned officer in the German army, initially with the mountain infantry. In 1978, after joining the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs he studied Public Administration at the Fachhochschule des Bundes in Bonn which included an internship at the German Embassy in Tunis.
After obtaining his graduate degree ("Diplom-Verwaltungswirt") in Bonn in 1981, he held different functions at the in the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs until he joined the German Mission to the UN in New York in 1983, followed by an assignment as DCM and eventually Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Lesotho in 1988. From 1993 through 1996 he served as personal assistant to the director general of economic affairs at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bonn. In 1996 he became Counselor of Administration at the German Embassy in Abu Dhabi followed in 2000 by another tour at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin as desk officer in the personnel department. From 2003 he served as Counselor of Administrative Affairs at the German Embassies in Washington and Tokyo (2007-2011). Upon his return into the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin he first became head of administration and in 2013 head of section for the training of career officers (consular & admin services) at the Foreign Service Academy.
On August 1, 2016, he assumed his new position as Deputy Consul General in Montreal.
Cornel Barth has been married to Ruth Barth since 1980. They have two children who are living in Germany.
