First Time Application for a German Passport for Adults

Required Documents

Required Documents:
1.

Completed and signed application form.

2.

Birth Certificate/Birth Declaration/Déclaration de naissance/Registration of Live Birth.  If the applicant was born in Canada: The Longform Birth Certificate.

3.

If parents were married at the time of birth: Heiratsurkunde of the parents of the applicant. If marriage was concluded in Canada, the document issued by Vital Statistics or the Registry is required.

4.

If parents were not married at the time of birth of the applicant, the "Registration of Live Birth" (issued by Vital Statistics / the Registry), or the "Déclaration de naissance" (issued in Québec) is required.

5.

Proof of citizenship of parents: the German passport of the father and/or the mother at the time of birth of the applicant, or the last German passport of the father and/or the mother.

6.

Permanent Resident Card of the non-Canadian parent.

7.

If applicable: "Certificate of Citizenship" of the German parent as proof of the date, when the German parent aquired Canadian citizenship

Passport and passport copy of the non-German parent

9.

Certified copy of a Canadian identity document, for example passport or driver's licence.

10.

One passport picture, good contrast, not older than 6 months. The picture must conform to the biometric passport requirements. For details please see below or our website.

11.

Fees: applicants over 24 yrs: approx. Can $ 140,- (depending on the exchange rate).
An additional fee of approx CAN $ 70,- will apply for the application at the honorary consul

12.

Photocopies (+ originals) or certified copies of the above mentioned documents.

13.

Xpresspost prepaid enveloppe / regional standard # 142 200 for passport delivery by mail. Passports can be picked up in person only in exeptional circumstances.

Additional documents may be required.

For applicants under 24 years of age the passport will be valid for 6 years; for applicants over 24 years of age the passport will be valid for 10 years.

You must submit your passport application in person at the German Foreign Mission.

The German Foreign Missions, but not the Honorary Consuls, accept credit cards and cash in CAD. We cannot accept cheques or debit cards.

The office of the Honorary Consuls may charge additional fees.
