Scholarship and support programme: students do better when they feel at home

From welcome breakfasts to friendship programmes, German universities come up with lots of interesting ways of making it easier for international students to settle into their new surroundings. The DAAD offers them a combined scholarship and support programme (STIBET), which is funded by the Federal Foreign Office. It supports introductory events and country evenings as well as specialist support for foreign doctoral students. Projects like Die Brücke (The Bridge) in Münster have developed their own special approaches and act as examples for other universities.

Centres of excellence in Africa: top training for the decision-makers of tomorrow

The Federal Foreign Office and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are supporting master and doctoral training of the highest standard with five centres of excellence at important African universities. In terms of content, the focus lies on subjects of major social relevance. Across subject divisions, emphasis is also being placed on building a close network of partners for the democratic and economic development of Africaand cooperation with Germany.

Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a joint organisation of German institutions of higher education and student bodies. Its task is to support academic cooperation around the world, especially by promoting the exchange of students and academics.

The DAAD is also the main student exchange organization for international students and maintains liasons offices worldwide to provide information and financial support to over 50,000 highly-qualified students and faculty per year for international research and study. The DAAD maintains  an Information Center in Toronto.
